How would you read the casting code

Postby radioguy41 » Tue Jul 04, 2023 9:49 am

on this torque tube? It looks original to the Cub LoBoy (1957) but if I'm reading the code "X" right it's dated 1952?

Larry, they all have that X on them. Not sure what it means. There is a casting code located near the clutch pedal

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Ah, ok, good to know. I'll have to check it out tomorrow when I crawl under again.

Hi,
The clutch housing date code is usually partly behind the clutch pedal, on the side of the housing, you don't have to get under the Cub to see it.

Pretty much what I said.

OK, I'll take a look tomorrow. The garage door opener went belly up so that takes priority which meant I had to put the front end back together so I could move the tractor to be able to get at the opener. If it ain't one thing it's another!

OK, I found it. The battery cable was covering it. It's a "C" so it's a 1957 casting. Everything I've found so far matches up to a 1957 code except the T/C. The T/C is yellow (everything else is red) and has an "M" code making it a 1966 version so it's been replaced at some point and it's all wet along the bottom so it looks like it leaks. I'll run some tests to make sure it isn't just the gasket leaking where the manifold bolts fast since it was apart when replaced and the gasket looks like an old used one, not new.

Is the casting code on the engine block the same type as is used on the magneto coil?

Not sure I understand the question. This tractor does not have a magneto.
