Hi,
The original style oil gauge has threads and screws into a threaded hole, if you were asking how it comes out.
You might be able to turn it holding it with both hands and turning it counterclockwise.
If not you could try a small band wrench on the larger part of the gauge.
TM Tractor Parts has oil gauges they say they had made to look like the originals, you can look at the pics.
I don't know which emblem your gauge has, IH changed emblems in the late 1940's.

If you would prefer a gauge with numbers, IH changed Cubs to a gauge with numbers in the mid 1950's.

You could also use one of those jar lid removal tools you have in your kitchen.

Thanks for the info-I will try the strap. Don,t know if I should do it when the engine was cold or hot.

I would remove the oil gauge when the engine is cold, or has sat overnight, then some oil will probably have drained down from the oil filter housing.

I would change the oil pressure guage out when you do your oil change, this way you can clean up your threads if need be and apply some thread sealant. A strap wrench works good .
