184 planter plate question.

Postby Ohiowoodchuck » Sat Feb 18, 2023 10:49 am

Picked up a fast hitch 184 planter in the fall last year. Anybody got a plate recommendation for blue lake and top crop green bean planting.

Seed size changes! Variety means nothing, it is all about seed size!

You'll want to select a plate size based on the size seed you currently are using!

I use 24 cell corn plates for green bean seed, and adjust sprockets for distance setting seed charts recomend for spacing.

You can always buy a plastic seed plate epoxy the holes shut and dill the rite size you need for your seed.

I use a 3127 for white half runners. It really lays the seed down nicely and it’s not a hard plate to find. If that’s too thick try a 3638. It’s about half as much seed down.

I use a Lustran C0X-24. 99% of the Burpee seeds from this year fit the holes nicely. I noticed 1-2 that were bigger than the rest and got cut off. The spacing with the 24 hole is perfect for my combination.
