Cub Deluxe Seat

Postby IH Fan » Wed Jan 11, 2023 12:29 pm

Hello,
Question for those of you who have more than one Cub. Is the deluxe seat a lot more comfortable than the standard pedistal seat? Thanks in advance.

In my opinion, it is. It does pose some accessibility issues for taller people, though.

I agree with Don. The deluxe seat cushion is way comfortable. However, I definitely have an issue with getting on and off.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Not being a sufferer of "taller people syndrome", I like them. I/e been converting to them, as I find a seat frame I can afford.
On my plowing cub, I made a padded hip guard armrest, because you tend to slide into the side of the seat, when plowing. Had bruises from the armrest to prove it.

Many moons ago, Dave Wile (dirt devil) made a backrest for the pan seat. Most of the photos are gone.
This is one that (drspiff) marked up with an idea and posted to the thread below.

Dave subsequently perfected the seat back and posted this;

I think life got in the way since they never went into production...as far as I can tell.

Both points are particularly true for a Lo-Boy, less so on a Farmall.

Deluxe is way better. I'm both tall and shall we say, "fluffy." I figured out that drilling a new set of holes in the frame to move the seat back a couple of inches will help a lot.

Agree with Super A 100%. I've done that to mine, so much better. I'm thinking now that I should have went back 3" instead of 2".

Any tips on repairing the seat post slide so that it doesn’t have that pivot jiggle? I don’t know how else to describe it.

Seat observations I have:

1) unless the pan seat has no upholstery I get a wet butt with pans. All mine are outside tractors. I do not mind the steel pan.
2) On the uneven bumpy ground a working and lubed pogo seat I think is more comfortable with or without upholstery
3) I have purchased cheap cushions and expensive cushions for the deluxe seat and the cheap ones are a waste of money. It cannot just have foam it has to have springs inside.
4) The access issue previously mentioned. I have actually shortened 3-4 steering shafts on the cubs with deluxe seats to improve access.

I think they both have their advantages and disadvantages. I can not say I prefer one over the other to the point I would spend time and money to switch from one to the other.

My Lo-Boy has the deluxe, other 2 have upholstered pan seats. I really don’t give it much thought, I’m ok with either. Then again, I don’t ride any of mine for long time periods. I’m more fussy about the seat on my Kubota.

I'm partial to the deluxe seat, but my "seat" is all bone so I like the extra padding. I have not found a good cushion for a pan seat that is comfortable for me

I have a LoBoy with the deluxe seat, I'm 5'6" and it is difficult getting on and off, especially when dressed for snow plowing. A good reason to put a power angle on the plow. The original cushion is much more comfortable than the foam pad replacements. The backrest is better for parades and long tractor rides.

So if I understand this thread correctly you can put a deluxe seat on a regular farmall cub, with the correct brackets?
