"Nut welding" is going to be the next step
That's if I can get my brother - the welder - to come around and ply his trade
But things aren't moving fast as my wife has had surgery for cancer and is going thru chemo right now
The cub , and most other things are taking a backseat for a while....
Cripes - I thought I'd never get one.

When working on my 67 Buick I had a bolt holding the carb on the intake break off. I was told to heat what little was sticking up with a torch. Get it good and hot and then take a candle and touch it to the bolt. As it cools the wax gets sucked down into the threads. Once it cools weld a weld nut to the bolt and turn it out. It worked like a dream. I'm thinking it may work on a head bolt if you can get the heat down to the bottom of the threads.

I watched a video of Rachael doing a rebuild on her cub engine this morning and noticed she used stainless head bolts and no sealant on the threads ??

“Free” is not always without cost. Especially, if you have to spend money to repair or redo issues caused by bad advice.

Pretty good videos. Though some of the advice is not altogether great. Like chasing the head bolt holes after she's assembled parts of the engine. All cleaning work should be done before any assembly happens.

That's a big oversight on the head bolt sealant though.

I didn't think stainless would take the required torque either ?

While there might be a company out there making speciality grade stainless fasteners, generally the stainless fasteners with the two line headstamp 90° apart are soft.

Like comparable to grade 2 in my opinion!

I see no reason to use stainless as head bolts!

If I was replacing head bolts and did not have OEM IH, I would probably use ones from ARP!
