Farmall Cub Won't Crank

Postby silverfox1937 » Fri Dec 09, 2022 3:59 pm

1952 Farmall IH Cub been sitting in a fully covered/enclosed bldg. !st formal ever and bought it and I put a new 650cca battery in it 6 Volts. Positive ground. Ir ran when put in the bldg. I cleaned out everything from the gas tank which was full to the Carb. Cleaned Breather cap out. I went over the entire tractor connections and sprayed them generously with PB Blaster to help remove any corrosion etc. off the connections. Next day all way good & dry, I tried to start it up and it spins very fast, but doesn, try to Fire off at all. It has a new 6volt coil on it. I found some bad plug wires as plugs end so I replaced them and installed a new set of Spark Plugs too. Gapped to .023 . Removed distributor cap and rotor button looks nearly New, Dust plate and gasket good, Points looks good so I closed it all back up and it still will not fire off. Just spins and spins the engine over and over but does not try to start -Fire Off. Any Suggestions here guys.

Upon installing new Battery I did not Polarize the Generator, would that keep it from firing off and run.????Silverfox1937

Prime the oil pump before going any further.

2nd. Compression checks. Valves tend to stick.

Battery or magneto ignition system?

By the way, welcome. You can now access the manuals. Upper left, Quick links.

Polarizing regulator has no effect on engine starting.

Coil ohms reading is no indication of good or bad.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Check the main jet in carb?
Check for screen at carb line inlet?
Fuel does flow through carb?
Checked for spark after adding new plug wires? (Copper core preferred.)

Have good spark and fuel before cranking. Know your valves are freed up to.(As mentioned above.)
After a brief cranking investigate plugs for what is on them.

Keep a sharp ear out while cranking.

May need to de-glaze the points, as they can get a film on them from sitting for a long time....just use a points file, and then check gap.
