Saddle starter switch replacement
I need to replace the saddle starter switch. How hard is it to remove the back screw? Any tips?

Disconnect battery, unbolt starter, rotate starter. No need to remove starter.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: Saddle starter switch replacement
Brilliant! Common sense. Why didn't I think of that?
Thanks Eugene

Clean and Check for wear on the copper nub in the starter while you have the switch off.

What should I do if it's worn?

If it's worn and not making good contact, have it replaced at an auto electric shop.

Re: Saddle starter switch replacement
Thanks Don, Right now I have to pull the starter rod very hard before it engages. I hoped the new switch would fix that but I guess I will find out.

Re: Saddle starter switch replacement
Try this first. Elongate the switch mounting holes a bit to the rear, away from the starter contact, 1/32" to 1/16". This will let you slide the switch forward/towards the starter contact.Don McCombs wrote:If it's worn and not making good contact, have it replaced at an auto electric shop.

Re: Saddle starter switch replacement
The new switch seems to have fixed the issue. I think the old one was original to tractor but surprisingly clean for 62 years old. Has a Delco-Remy number stamped on it and better built than the new aftermarket switch.

Elongate the mounting holes, direction of the push button, to left in top picture, and put on the shelf.
