Cub ripper
All,
I came up with an inexpensive ripper. It uses a Reese CatII bumper receiver, which will bolt right to the drawbar. The ripper is made to attach to a 2 inch hitch receiver. I have some photos of it, but cannot resize them to attach to this post. We have some hard clay in my area, so I am going to start ripping the rows before I plant my garden.

Re: Cub ripper
They sell those bumper hitches that are for bolting under the old school step bumpers. That would be probably very similar to what your talking about . Use to be really cheap but probably more today.

Yep that's what I'm talking about. Those are step bumper to 2" receiver converters. Those use to be like $40 back in the day

If you have a Harbor Frieght nearby you can try this. https://www.harborfreight.com/automotiv ... 69673.html
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: Cub ripper
How deep will that go. Doesn't look like it will go that deep? Can the cub lower it enough to sink it to the shear bolt? Looks like a small box blade ripper, run 6-8" deep max of guess?

I was thinking the price back in like an auto parts store or Walmart. Still impressive it's that cheap today even on eBay.

I got the ripper here. https://m.vevor.com/hitch-mounted-rippe ... ShEALw_wcB
It is built from a box blade shank. I was going to build something similar, but figured why reinvent the wheel.
The hitch is just a step bumper bolt on receiver.
I bolted a couple of short pieces of angle on the drawbar, drilled 11/16 to accept 5/8 bolts, and use the rear 144 cultivator arms for lift/lower

So far, about 6 inches. The ground here is almost like rock at that depth. I think some extra weight would help, and the arms for the 144 cultivator are spring loaded, so that doesn't help either. I wanted to try it out like this before I pushed the envelope and broke something.

Re: Cub ripper
I run my field cultivator as a makeshift springtooth harrow or ripper. I have used my box blade teeth lowered all the way and curved Foward but it still pulls trash with it. I don't pull these with the cub though I pull it with my old Yanmar YM2000. It's 24 engine HP so it's got a little more grunt in the ground than the cub.

Re: Cub ripper
2 questions.
1) Is the 6" depth with it as in the photo? As it looks like it still could go down another slot.
2) Does the ripper have a shear bolt?
I'm looking for something similar but tons of roots so I must have sheer bolt protection or some other trip mechanism

Re: Cub ripper
dont need shear bolts on a cub! LOL! it wont break them if you have them anyway! Made a ripper for mine and after 3 passes it will go maybe 8 to 12 inches and thats all the deeper it will pull it. I plow 18 inches and rip 36 inches here so cub was just a "see what happens" project!

I was actually thinking of my Super A not Cub to rip as my 2 bottom plow goes 10" and disc goes 12" so a ripper would need to go at least 14" as I want to disc or plow less often. Not 100% no till but the least amount possible with the planters I have.
