Re: 1947 Farmall Cub project-part 2
I broke out the Tire liquid pump and started pumping out the rears from our '51 cub that I will be using on the '47 for now. We will see what shape the rims are in once I demount the tires.

Yep, CaCl. Drained the second tire And now to demount the tires. I shot a video of the pump working that I will post when I get it uploaded.

Re: 1947 Farmall Cub project-part 2
Demounted the first tire and found a rusty rim. Pounded it with a hammer to knock the heavy scale off and ran a wire brush over it to see what's left. I think I can save it so I will run it thru the Electrolysis tank and then sandblast. We will see what they are like at that point.

Broke down the second wheel. Its going to need some repair around the valve stem. I'll get it cleaned up and see just how bad it is.

Hi,
I think the rim in these pictures below belonged to Shane N. in the past.
He cleaned it and painted it, and it has the date it was made, it is evidently 1947 also.
The 2nd pic shows the size.
It's not as rusty as rims here in Wa. can become. I think he is in the mid west somewhere.
You did have the water in the tubes too, that makes them rust if leaking, and the water condensing on them too.
I think he probably had 2 rims the same, but I'm not sure. It could be in his restoration posts for his 1947 Cub, if they are still on here somewhere.
I just put the pics on in case you wanted to see another rim the same year as yours.

Re: 1947 Farmall Cub project-part 2
Bought a donor tractor just for the tires and wheels. Its an Economy Power King that is missing a lot of parts, but has the 12" fronts and 24" rears with really good rubber on the back. The rear centers even have the IH logo on them. I should have enough wheels now for all 3 of our cubs. I just need one complete set of tires.

Stole the rears off of the Economy Power King and installed them on the '47 Cub.

I loved this tractor then and I still love it now. - Circle of Safety: Y

Re: 1947 Farmall Cub project-part 2
I ran one front and one rear wheel through the E-tank. They still need wire brushing and sandblasting. The fronts on the '47 cub are in rough shape from dirt and who knows what stuck between the wheels and wheel weights. The one rear from the '51 cub looks salvageable. I have a second rear wheel cooking in the E-tank that's ready to come out for clean up.

Wire brushed the second rear wheel. This wheel was in good shape.

Re: 1947 Farmall Cub project-part 2
More wheel cleaning with no end in sight. When I get to the end, I hope to have 3 sets for the cubs and one set for the Economy Power King. May have to find a couple used wheels and some tires. I had a set of front wheels that I cleaned, painted, and installed new tires on several years ago that I installed on the '47 so I could clean up the original rims. They are in rough shape.
