SUPER RARE CUB MOWER?
I pick up this Cub Gang mower today at an auction, I seen Fasthitch and under mount like this but never front mounted like a snow plow. Anybody seen 1 like this or info on it? Its going to look good in my Cub Attachment Collection.

Re: SUPER RARE CUB MOWER?
My Dad bought large gange mowers from a golf course. The cub could pull 7 but most of the time we ran 5. As TST said unless you have a golf course they are not practical for home use. You need: grasses that do ok at very short height; be willing to spend on weed and pest treatments; have few if any weeds growing in your yard, and have very smooth contour grades.
They are hard to sharpen properly, ideally the reel should be taken out and put on a lathe-like sharpener. There is very limited height adjustment. They do not cut crabgrass every well so you end up with the crabgrass sticking up.
I worked at a golf course and while gange mowers are the only way to cut greens and fairways to the desired height they are not used in the "rough" which is still shorter than the height you should keep your lawn to be healthy.
If as an IH collector you want to get them go for it. They are just is not great to use.

When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!

Re: SUPER RARE CUB MOWER?
It quite the chore keep the blades sharpened. Your will need a motor setup and lapping compound.

Re: SUPER RARE CUB MOWER?
In indy61's first picture above, is it really necessary to have front wheel weights?
Or would all the weight be on the mowers and you need a little more bite for the front wheels to be able to turn without lifting the mowers?
Which brings me to I would also think a front blade flexible clevis would be a good idea to allow a little float up and down. The only thing I see allowing float would be the slop in the connections.
