Re: 1952 Cub arrives in new home.
Yes the seal fit tight and my plan is it put a pan under the tractor to catch the drips when it is parked in the storage shed.
Got the hood straighten and the mounting tabs welded back on. Was able to prime and get a first coat of paint on the hood this weekend. Had some minor problems with hood alignment. The exhaust pipe had a slight bend just outside the manifold (picture in earlier post). Using the post viewtopic.php?f=141&t=21985 I was able to remove the old pipe and install a new pipe. Which lined up better in the hood exhaust hole.
I used a 1” npt tap to clean the treads. I already had the tap from working on the exhaust of my cub cadet 104.
Hopefully temperatures will cool down some more so i can install the hangers for the wiring harness.
Getting closer to putting the machine back to work!

Re: 1952 Cub arrives in new home.
Hi,
When welding front hood brackets on that are broken off the hood, they have to be in exactly the right places.
If the front of the hood is too low, the grille won't fit in the space for it.
The side panels wouldn't fit right either.
Before painting more, I would put the hood on, bolt it in place, and see if the grille and side panels fit right.
If the brackets are in the wrong places, you will need to move them.
Maybe you already checked this.

Re: 1952 Cub arrives in new home.
The hood, side panels and grill were test fit on the tractor after welding and before I started the painting process.
The hood support brackets ripped out and took the hood sheet metal with them So alignment was pretty easy as I just clamped them with a large c clamp back into their original location, tack welded them, removed the clamp and fully welded them on both sides.
I cleaned the starter up and reinstalled that along with the starter control rod. I installed the choke rod as well. In prep of installing the hood I put new spark plugs in and did a compression check when I removed the spark plugs for replacement.
Cylinder 4,3,1 were all just over a hair over 100.
cylinder 2 was 95.
This made me feel better as over a month ago using the hand crank I got reading closer to 70 on all cylinders.

I do have to say the glossy paint brings out all the dents and dings in the hood. Going to be a work tractor so fine having some battle scars!
Still only first coat of paint.

Looks great. Have really enjoyed following along on your restoration. Hope you are pleased with the results and working the tractor soon.

Re: 1952 Cub arrives in new home.
To do list keeps getting shorter!
Have alternator for 12 volt conversion on the way. Removed regulator and 6 volt generator. I drained the coolant a while ago and have done two cycles with washing soda. Even after second cycle water came out pretty dirty. So figured time to remove the radiator as well for deep cleaning. Pulled the fan and shroud off to work on removing the radiator.
Only 1 bolt remaining in radiator mount! The 1/4” cordless impact driver worked great. Lots of hammering but low torque so little chance of breaking the bolt. Also lots of PB blaster.
Single bolt remaining. Letting it soak.
Well back side of radiator looking a little tired and the overflow pipe needs to be resoldered to fill neck. Radiator wasn’t leaking but not sure best way to evaluate it. I know the cubs cooling systems are not pressurized.

Re: 1952 Cub arrives in new home.
Always tough choices. The radiator is now off and there was over a 1/2” of sludge under the radiator even after two cycles with wash soda. Both hoses where bad and the overflow pipe needed repair even before I touched it. The overflow pipe is also rusted solid.
Removal of the top hose found a bent pipe.
On a positive note no broken bolts!

Re: 1952 Cub arrives in new home.
Pulled the tractor out so I could flush the cooling system. Got the sludge out and flushed a bunch of junk out the engine!
Got the degreaser out and worked to clean up front end for final painting. I did discover what appears to be a repair in the engine casting. Below is the photo. In the background of the image is the flat mounting area for the generator.
Is this a common spot for issues?

Re: 1952 Cub arrives in new home.
Things coming together! Radiator reinstalled and no leaks.
Generator replaced with Delco 10si - 3 wire. Took sometime to get alternator brackets just right but have a finger width between hood and alternator. Did have to switch to 20” belt.
Test run pinned standard cub amp meter at 3/4 throttle. Still need to install alternator power switch into dash.
Anyone have any suggestions of the ammeter scale I should be looking at or do I just go with volt meter.
