I have a round-nose Loboy that has been a great runner. I put a new battery, ground cable and pull starter switch in last year. It has been a great stater ever since I got it.
Lately the battery is always dead. I put my battery tester and it was ready well over 7 volts when running. It starts great with a jump and will start after the battery has been charged from running.
I put a multimeter on the battery when it was off and the battery is losing 0.01 of a volt every few seconds.
I do not see any damaged wires and the lights were off. I thought maybe a stuck regulator? I guessed if it was short it would drain faster than 0.01v a second.
Any suggestions?

I’d still consider the regulator, disconnect the Bat. Wire from the regulator and see if the battery still drains.

Re: loosing charge while off
I replaced the regulator and the discharge problem went away.
Has anyone seen this regulator on the cub? The armature connection is under the box.

Re: loosing charge while off
Hi,
When using that style voltage regulator, the 4 wires are not seen, and like Tim said, the wires stay out of the rain too.
Below is a page from the 1957 Cub operator's manual showing the regulator on the right side.
http://farmallcub.com/rudi_cub/www.clea ... e%2003.jpg
Below is the wiring page from the same manual, the regulator is at the upper right of the page.
The 3 posts on the side are originally turned facing in, under the hood.

Cubs I have seen had that style regulator too.

Re: loosing charge while off
Mine seems to do the same thing but I've converted it to 12V so not using the regulator.

Re: loosing charge while off
Since it was working I may clean it up and see if it still discharges a battery. The rust between the Battery and the Field terminal may be the issue causing a path to ground through the resister which would explain the slow discharge.
