47 Cub is now coming together!

Postby AHS » Tue Jul 06, 2021 5:33 am

Ok, the carb had two different bolts…. What is the stock size? (1/4-20 1 1/4”)? The carb is all rebuilt. The magneto is all rebuilt. Now just have to do the gov seal. Thank you all for the help! :hattip:

Actually, the carb was originally attached with studs. But, many times the threads in the carb flange were stripped out and the studs were replaced with a bolt and nut.

If you’re referring to the ones that secure the carb to the manifold, they are supposed to be studs that are screwed into the carb flange. If the threads are gone, the holes can be helicoiled. The studs are 1/4-20 on the carb end, 1/4-28 on the nut end, about an inch long.

Helpful info in the How To Forum on governor-to-mag seal installation: http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=144&t=94808&p=747219&hilit=seal#p747219

The critical dimension is the 22/32" depth that the front of the seal must be inset from the face of the engine block (where the mag mounts).

Taken from page 32 of the Blue Ribbon Service Engine manual GSS-1007:

You mean 23/32, like in the pic, right?

Hi,
Below is the Cub service manual, it has lots of info, this is one of the newest service manuals IH made for the Cub, it was made in the 1970's.
There is a contents beginning on page 1 of most sections.
The info about the magneto drive oil seal is in section 2, the fuel section. :)
