Don't confuse my starter rebuild suggestion with a "don't buy another cub"! You still NEED that mower!
I suggest rebuilding the starter AND purchasing the parts cub! :hattip:

6-v 12-v is nothing more than personal pref. in MOST cases---- I have/use both! GOTTA have my 12-v for electric sprayers and modern stuff. As far as for just starting, the 6-v is fine---- just more upkeep and expense to them than 12-v systems.
IF you go back-----you might as well get a new 6-v wiring harness cause I promise you yours has been destroyed as most have been making it cleaner/simpler to start over.

I undersrand your decision to switch back to 6v from 12, but if the 12v works, I would leave it alone!
