Bearing/seal replacement on L28 Rotovator
Our good moderator Bill Hudson conducted Microfest session on Farmall Cub speed reducers for my L28 Rotovator and replacing the bearing and seal on the driveshaft to the Rotovator. While the installation of a speed reducer in my opinion could be major surgery, I have opted not to do that at this time. The bearing/seal replacement is doable and I have put the Rotovator on blocks, stared to remove the nuts and bolts to make the repair. Progress reports to follow. Bill has led me through the removal of the cover, brackets and chain so far. Thank you Bill. Please don’t get too far from your phone!

I'll stay close to the phone and you're not that far away, so a helping hand can be there quickly.

Sounds like a great project! Are you going to post pictures? Where did you get the seal and bearing? Was planning on doing mine.

Re: Bearing/seal replacement on L28 Rotovator
Installing the speed reducer is not that big a deal if you have all the hardware. The biggest thing is removing the final. Without the reducer you wil have to make a lot more pases to work up the soil.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

If you guys have the part number for the bearing this would be a good place to share it if you don’t mind. I have the seal part number from Johns parts list. It is Howard spares 25069.

Re: Bearing/seal replacement on L28 Rotovator
Are we talking about a bearing on the L-28 gear box? ( the round gear box that the PTO shaft goes in to)
or the lower bearing that holds on the tine shaft?
Thanks.
pics related to question.

My interest was for the bearing part number in the Howard CD-6 Despeeder.

I stopped to talk to Big Chief today. Not much progress on the Rotovator. We will keep you informed of the bearing number used for replacement.
