Are these the same ones that fit a Cub? They are out of Originals.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: Cadet Trans
I think so!
Do they have the block off cover on the back where the pto housing screws to for the big cubs?
There is a picture in the farmall cub / cub cadet book (page 59) of the transmission assembly line where both cub and cub cadet transmissions were being assembled at the same time!

Okay, so does that mean the Original trans is what they were building in that picture on page 59?

Do you have the book?
I only did a quick glance to jog my memory before jumping back in bed! Lol
I cant say for sure, but I think they used the same basic set-up on all 3 speed gear shift IH cub cadets!
I have a cub cadet that I have to get going (cant think of the model this moment) ( might be a model 1200), it has the same basic trans, but with different (heavier) axle housings and disk brakes.

You can use the gears out of any of them with a cast iron case. You can even use the case with a couple small mods.

Re: Cadet Trans
Isn’t the ring gear on the wrong side? You have to remove it and flip it around, or you would have 3 reverse and one forward.

Yes, according to the Wisconsin Historical Society the photo was taken in 1961.

Yes, john, the ring has to be flipped, assuming you're using the case and all.

Re: Cadet Trans
Art Chester (artc) has converted many Cub Cadet transmissions over for use on the Farmall Cub or International Cub Loboy. This included flipping the ring gear around but also I seem to recall there was a "port" missing on the Cub Cadet case that he added for use on the Cubs. Not sure if it was the cases from the Original or subsequent Cub Cadets. Maybe he'll see this post and chime in.

Peter, I bought one from Art, but I couldn't remember which ones he used. That's why I thought I better ask.

Bill,
My recollection is that both will work but the since the Originals used a belt drive system vs the direct drive of the subsequent models, there was something about the case that needed to be changed.
Here's a link to a good post on the topic;

So it sounds like the ones in the Originals would not bolt up.
These are for sale down the road from me, but I will pass on them if they won't work.

Re: Cadet Trans
The early Cadet trans is the best for a Cub. The belt drive has nothing to do with it.
