Cub electrical questions

Postby Schst1918 » Fri Mar 05, 2021 6:04 pm

1. Where can I find info/wiring diagram for wiring in the generator for my cub?
2. Is it possible to change my cub from positive ground to negative ground? Or is it a big pain to change?
3. How about electronic ignition for it?

#1, In the pdf manual section here at farmallcub.com, or in a printed manual!

#2, Definately possible if switching to a 12 volt system!
(If you are keeping 6 volt, there is no reason to change from positive ground!)

#3, It is available!

Hi,
I'm not sure if you mean you need wiring diagrams for the Cub, or a wiring diagram for inside the generator.
The wiring diagrams for the Cubs are in the Cub operator's manuals.
You didn't say the year of the Cub, the electrical systems changed some through the years.

Cubs from 1947 - mid 1950, serial number 115403, originally had a cutout, or Relay IH called it, generator system.
Cubs after 115403 have voltage regulators.

Then in mid 1964 IH changed the Cub to 12 volts. :)

If you simply want to switch polarity (can't think of a reason) you just need to switch the leads on the amp meter, switch the leads on the coil, switch the battery cables and re-polarize the generator. The voltage regulator (or cut out relay) will function properly but will have a shorter life span. If you're talking converting to 12 volts, along with the polarity swap, that's another topic.
Electronic ignition is easy, if you currently have battery ignition. Tell us more about your tractor, we can better help you.
