Another mowing cub made ready for this summer again. New seal from Tim ( Thanks Ed ) and a home brew bell crank for a higher lift. New mower belt and just a good going over of everything. My two mowing cubs earn a hard living now and I couldn't do without them. I'd guess we're mowing about 75 acres a year now with some of it being cut twice. 5 mowing tractors being used and the 2 cubs take care of the steep roughest areas.

Very interesting way to split the cub! Don't think I've ever seen it done with the hood/tank left on. I'll have to look at the more closely.

Dale, a 2x4 placed across between the tank and engine head will hold everything up to clear. Wiring, pull rods, throttle, hydro lines and steering wheel rod and it's ready to roll apart.
Removing the hood would have been the hardest part of the job. Mr. Tmays and I replaced a clutch in a cub at the Va Fest a few years back. Looking things over we decided it could be done with the hood left on. I've split a few since and hope to never remove a hood again. You know what happens when that hood comes off don't you ? Everything....

Talk about a better way to split a Cub! Wow! If only I trusted my hydraulic jack that much.

I suppose it depends on which version of the electrical system you have. But is seems like removing and reconnecting the wiring while the hood is on could be more work than removing/replacing the hood.

I understand if original, I ran my own wiring while building the cubs and it all pretty basic. One wire alternator makes it even easier.

Interesting way to split one. I might have to try that one of these days.
I would not trust my jack that far either.. Probably have at least something bolted on to the sides, for a just in case the jack slips insurance policy.

If you look closely the front axle is wedged , and it takes very little to jack up a cub
