I felt the expense of buying a 5 gallon bucket was ridiculous. But my son reminded me that I have other tractors so I will get the correct oil. On top of that my local farm store told me hydraulic oil is going on sale in the near future.

Again I bought a 5 gallon bucket of Traveller premium hydraulic/trans fluid. It lists HYTran as a fluid it replaces. I paid $29.99 plus tax at tractor supply.

Full synthetic motor oil will cost almost that. Walmart brand oil will be in the $18/ 5 qt bottle range. If you go name brand your going to pay $25-30 a bottle for the oil, basically what a 5 gallon pail will cost you. I don't see a reason to buy the incorrect fluid for 80% of the cost of an acceptable replacement? Sure if you buy quarts it will be a little cheaper but the price of quart bottles these days is outrageous. Just buy the bucket and have fluid for many more fluid changes or use it on your other tractors.

I live in CR but I go to mills fleet farm where I can get a single gallon.
The cub is in Kansas with my son. He will buy the 5 gallon bucket
