I could not say tractor when I was 2 years old so I called it Err Err.
I loved this tractor then and I still love it now. - Circle of Safety: Y

Re: '55 Cub "Refurbishing"
Well, it is raining here today, so what better time to catch up on Betty's progress...especially since she has already been returned to the farm, and another tractor is being worked on now! Gotta keep my mind more organized! Sure helps taking photos and keeping notes for each tractor!
Since this tractor will have a fast hitch installed, I needed to replace the broken housing on the left. I removed it and found a replacement (but later realized it had the one-piece brake rather than the toggle, but too late now!!). I cleaned up the "new" housing, and transferred parts from the broken one. I was surprised that only ONE of the five lug bolts was the correct tapered bolt. Fortunately I have some spares.
I needed to wait until the Barnyard Bash to finish up the finals. Meanwhile, I removed the carb:
Once the new seal was in, installed the final.

Re: '55 Cub "Refurbishing"
Thanks to Bob McCarty, a "new" transmission shifter was waiting for me at the Bash, so after cleaning everything up, it looked a lot better.

Re: '55 Cub "Refurbishing"
The old handmade battery box was OK, but had no lid or front cover.
Brought to the Bash by a forum member was a very nice battery box that was bartered for! Love Cubfests!!
Next thing to do is install the fast hitch. That needs to be done before the left tire/rim is put back on, due to clearance issues. For the next post...break time now!

Decided to install the fast hitch in one piece, which worked, but ONLY after a few very choice words!! Like wrestling a 300 pound octopus single handed!!

Re: '55 Cub "Refurbishing"
In the picture where you are installing the fast hitch, is there a soda bottle over the shifter?
Is it to keep it clean in the shop, or to keep water from seeping into the transmission?

Good job, Dale. A feeling of pride and satisfaction, I'm sure, has swept over you...

My 5 cubs live in a covered shed, but are exposed to condensation, washing & occasional rain. I had some unrecyclable tennis ball cans & figured this would be a good use for them! Plus, I was bored the day I made these!!

That's a good solution. What is the black part 8n 5he center that looks like a black Solo cup with the bottom cut off?

Look at the link I included. It shows 2 tennis ball cans cut (top off one, bottom off the other) then taped together for the right height with Gorilla tape.

Re: '55 Cub "Refurbishing"
The touch control is not that hard, and will provide great satisfaction when you are done! Just follow one of the two HOW TO's (depending on your TC part number), and you'll be fine. Be methodical, keep everything clean, take lots of photos, and liberally lubricate parts as you reassemble. Above all, have patience... don't force anything.
TM Tractors sells both kits. Good luck if/when you do your rebuild, Thomas!
