Carb success but need advice on throttle

Postby Jose Wales » Sat Oct 31, 2020 12:17 pm

Thanks to the Forum it has gone very well, installed the new carb , had to exchange the idle screw from the old one, the new one was too long and restricted the linkage. Had trouble starting, flooding, but I found the idle was too high and the throttle at i/4 was almost full. I adjusted the idle and then only used a couple notches and it fired right up and runs great. Ran it for about an hour, no leaks or other problems. It will start now with no problem. I think the throttle/idle adjust must have caused some of the problem. Is that possible?
The problem I need help with is there is only a little throttle movement from idle to full. The throttle lever goes full travel but only about 1/5 of the travel causes an increase or decrease in speed, the center of travel is dead. How do you adjust the throttle and linkage to get proper range? I read other forum posts but still don't get it. Thanks again for the great help.

Did you adjust the governor to carburetor linkage rod, per the service manual, after installing the new carburetor?

Thanks Don, No I haven't adjusted the control rod, I am going to have to look up a print to understand exactly what you are saying, I will look it up tonight and try to adjust it tomorrow.

Hi,
It is the rod with the yoke ahead of the carburetor.
If the yoke is adjusted to the wrong position, it will work like you are saying.
The governor can work bad, and it can make the throttle lever work wrong also.

Below are pics from TM Tractor. :)

Thanks guys, I found the service manual here, I am so new I forget about the manuals available on this forum, Will give it a try tomorrow and see what happens. Would the governor linkage being out of adjustment cause a loss of power? If I manually operate the shaft it will greatly increase RPMs more than if using the hand throttle.

Yes
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.
