Clutch issue??

Postby Qtr Milr » Mon Sep 07, 2020 10:33 am

I’m at a loss for this one. When my Cub is first started the first couple of clutch engagements end up with some gear grinding. After that everything works just fine. Everything seems to look and act ok when looking through the observation port. I looked through some old posts but haven’t seen anything similar. Any ideas??

Do you have 1” free play on the clutch pedal?

Does it help to hold the clutch in a few seconds before trying to put in gear so the shaft can come to a stop?

Could be sticking pilot bearing. I’ve heard parking with nose downhill and a couple of spray nozzle extensions on a spray lubricant, spray the clutch shaft and hope it gets to the pilot bearing. I’ve never tried this.

Plenty of free play. I played with it some more. When the engine is off PTO engaged I can push the clutch in and it spins easy. Start it up with the PTO engaged and the trans shifts fine disengage the PTO and trans grinds going into gear....

This looks different than any other set up I’ve seen online.
