Touch Control no longer lowers deck

Postby lovemachine » Sun Jun 07, 2020 11:43 am

I changed the transmission oil, 80w-90, and now the touch control doesn’t lower the deck anymore.

Any idea why that is?

How is the hydraulic oil? If it is low it will not work.

I’m not 100% sure where to look at. I’ve been trying to find the fill location, and where to bleed it at.

Here's a photo from TM Tractor: http://www.tmtractor.com/tm-tractor/ghy ... ck_001.htm
The fill plug is the silver hex plug near the top. With the piston retracted, you add hydraulic oil until it just starts coming out the fill hole. There isn't a separate bleed, you cycle the hydraulics a dozen times with the fill plug out to let air escape. Check your engine oil level. If it is high, the pump shaft seal is leaking hydraulic fluid into the oil pan.

Found it. Thank you.

It’s low. Will any hydraulic fluid work?

You either want to use Case/IH Hy-Tran or one that states it is comparable to it. MS-1207 or MS-1209 will both work. You still need to check the oil level to determine if it's leaking there. The hydraulic oil/engine oil mix isn't the best for the engine.

I have Hy-Gard. Would that work?

That’s a JD fluid. Probably not what’s in there, but it will work. I’d follow Bobs suggestion about making sure hydraulic fluid not leaking into oil. But you can try it and see if it solves your problem

You'd have to see what the label says. Unless JD requires a higher viscosity or some other significant difference, it might work okay. Probably best not to mix the two.

Oil level looks fine. I know the tractor has been sitting for over a year, maybe that has something to do with it?

I’m going to go to my local auto parts tomorrow to see if they can order the Hy-Tran for me.

If it looks full, try bleeding it as Bob described.

Implements hooked up to the hydraulic system? Something blocking, holding, the implement in raised position?
Noise from the touch control when moving the control lever?
I have an excuse. CRS.

Sorry, I meant engine oil. Hydraulic oil is definitely low.

Hard to say whether the hydraulic oil is low with the hydraulics in the raised position. When hydraulics are lowered, the oil level will rise in the hydraulic body
