Antifreeze in my engine oil

Postby M6Scout » Sun May 24, 2020 1:39 pm

Hello All,

I have antifreeze in my engine oil, it’s all drained and filter box is also. I hear that it’s best to put diesel fuel in the crank case then spin it over a 10 seconds or so. A couple times with out letting it start.

Thanks in advance

if you have antifreeze in your oil you have a problem, perhaps bad head gasket, draining it will not fix the cause

Don't put antifreeze back in either until you fix the cause. Antifreeze will destroy the bearings, water will not,it will make a mess though. I went through this with my Ford last year. Luckily it ended up in the filter canister not in the crankcase. Turned out to be the head gasket

Yeah I Determined the cause and replaced the head gasket. I’m just wondering if there’s a better way to flush out the engine than just
2 or 3 oil changes.

Thanks for your replies

1. Be sure to open the drain under the oil filter as well as the pan.
2. Let it drip over night.
3. Refill and run it enough for the oil to circulate (a few minutes).
4. Let it sit over night.
5. Crack open the pan drain and see if there is any antifreeze, same with the filter plug.
7. If there is antifreeze either place, go back to step 3. If antifreeze keeps showing up after2 or 3 checks, you still have a problem.
8. Use it enough to get it completely warmed up.
9. Crack open the pan drain and see if there is any antifreeze, same with the filter plug.
6. If both are clean, consider it done. Otherwise, you still have a problem.

Note that this involves a lot of checking but only 1 oil change.
