farmall cub repair

Postby Williamb » Sat Feb 29, 2020 4:56 pm

I think my cub exceeds my ability to fix it. I have a battery killing electrical system, a sticky governor, and now a leaky radiator. I live in St Tammany parish Louisiana and would like to find someone willing to tackle the repairs. If anyone can suggest someone it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Bill

There are several on the site in Lousiana. Possibly on of them might be interested. I think if you're mechanically inclined, and have the time with some help from the forum you should be able to make the repairs.

Maybe at the next cub fest in Bogalusa? I have tried to lubricate the outside fittings to the governor and feel a little daunted to crack it open. I recently put a one wire alternator on the tractor and suspect that may be the electrical problem. No clue about the radiator I was too frustrated to even look. The tractor is currently being punished by being left in the field. Mainly because it wouldn't start after hilling my garden.

I, too, strongly encourage you to attend the LA Cubfest, if you possibly can. Those folks should be able to get you fixed up or at least headed in the right direction!

I’d just like to add that when I first got my Cub, I had no natural mechanical abilities. But, with the manuals and the help of the knowledgeable folks on this board, I started tackling some projects on my Cub. Small at first, but each success boosted my confidence and then I stepped up my game a notch. What I first found intimidating turned out to be a fairly simple machine. Don’t be afraid to ask questions here. This is by far the best forum, and most supportive, that I belong to. Best of luck with your Cub. They really are great tractors!

Some of the best Farmall Cub mechanics in this country will be at Buddy's in a couple of weeks. Bring it and you will leave there with a better running tractor and a big smile :D on your face :!:

I agree with WaMoo...folks on here can help walk you through most repairs, especially if you post pictures of your problem. I am constantly amazed by what the experts on here can assess from pictures. Use the “member” finder to see if a board member lives close by, if so I’m sure they would be willing to stop by and help you.
Ask questions and post pictures!

Thanks for all the support. I did make cub fest last year but didn't bring the tractor. This year I definitely will show up.
This tractor was an original purchase by my brother in laws' family in the 1950s. It sat unused in their field for years and was finally passed down to me. It wasn't in the best shape. I have been using it every year to hill and cultivate my vegetable garden but struggle to keep it running.

See you there
