Here is the handle I made for the Cub I plow snow with.
It will work with the plow up, down, or anywhere in between.
I simply added 14" to the dimension of the drawing floating around here on the forum.
Now to find a way to mount a holder for it on the tractor.

Re: Crank Handle for snowplowing Cub
That longer handle is very useful if you have to hand crank the Cub with the snow plow on the tractor. I made one with the Harbor Freight rod bender. Still haven’t found a good place to mount it.

What about mounting it behind the plow?
When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!

Re: Crank Handle for snowplowing Cub
Stock location, let it stick past the left side of the battery box. You may need to slightly reposition the electrical cable/wires. Don't let the back end stick back into mower belts/pulleys.

Re: Crank Handle for snowplowing Cub
This would be very useful. Much better than having to start the tractor with half cranks.

Re: Crank Handle for snowplowing Cub
This may be me misunderstanding what you mean by "half cranks" but you should only be using one hand and pull up on the crank with your thumb alongside your fingers. Spinning the crank in a full circle or having your thumb going the opposite way around the crank handle can both lead to injuries.clintmo wrote:This would be very useful. Never tried it, so can’t speak from experience. But the idea of a longer crank seems it might be hard to keep in a relatively straight line while cranking without support from your other hand. Therein would lie the danger if anything went wrong. But that’s just my thinking

Re: Crank Handle for snowplowing Cub
I have always held the plow lift out of the way. The tractor almost always starts on the first crank. You need to have all your stuff, throttle, choke set, and above all be in neutral and a good tuned tractor. Never really thought it was a problem.

I made one and it works fine. Same cautionary rules apply.

Last winter was my first season with the longer crank. I used it to crank the cub about two dozen times with no problems. I made the crank approximately 6" longer (as shown in below photo) and it safely clears the lift arms of the plow in the elevated position in attached photo, or any other position as well. The only minor concern I can envision is that I am standing in front of the plow and a little farther away from the front of the tractor, but that has never felt uncomfortable or unsafe to me.

Re: Crank Handle for snowplowing Cub
If I need to crank mine in the winter I unhook my plow and pull the lift arm forward to crank it
