Checking The Touch Control Fluid

Postby Glen » Thu Jun 20, 2019 11:19 pm

Hi,
I thought I would post this again, if you are checking, or changing, the Touch Control fluid this year.

When some years of the Farmall Cubs were new, there was a sticker on the left side of the hood, above the Touch Control that said,
"Always check oil level and fill when rockshaft arms are in the rear position"
The owner's manual says that also.

There is an airspace in the top of the unit. The Touch Control fluid level rises when the arms go to the rear, or down position. So if you check the fluid with the arms in the ahead, or up position, it will look low on fluid, even if it has the right amount.
If you filled it with the arms ahead, it has too much fluid in it. I would remove the filler plug, run the engine, move the lever to the rear, and let the excess fluid run out.
Just some info in case you didn't notice it.

Below are pages from the 1955 Cub owner's manual telling about the Touch Control system, and the pics show where the fill and drain plugs are.
The 3rd page tells how to change the fluid, and remove the air from the system. Be sure to do what it says in paragraph 4, to remove the air. The arms should go through their full travel 10 - 12 times.

Nowadays they make Case IH Hy-Tran fluid for the Touch Control. It is sold at Case IH dealers.
There are other brands, look on the package and be sure it works with IH systems before buying it.

Here is a pic of the sticker from TM Tractor. :)

Is there a breather on the tc reservoir - or does the air over the fluid compress? Thx

There is no breather on the TC block.
