Hi,
The coil has a rectangular bar that goes through the center of it, for the coil mounting. You will need to remove the bar, and use it again with the new coil.
Below are pages from the 1947 Cub owner's manual, telling about the magneto.
The 3rd page tells how to find number 1 cylinder TDC at paragraph 2 on the page. I would do that before removing the magneto, if you are going to remove the magneto.
Use only paragraph 2 to find TDC. The page tells how to time the magneto to the engine, if you remove the magneto.
The 2nd page tells how to wash the impulse coupling, and chamber, on the right side of the page.
If you remove the magneto, I would wash there.

If you remove the magneto there should be no oil in the area where the magneto drive is. If there is motor oil there, the oil seal is leaking and needs replacing. TM Tractor Parts has a new seal.
The picture below shows the drive, and oil seal. The slots should be turned like in the pic at TDC.
