Generator voltage

Postby robinhood560 » Mon Feb 12, 2024 1:50 pm

I have rewired my cub with a harness from Brillman. I’m running a magneto. My cub is a 49 and had a cutout relay on top of the generator. I haven’t installed a battery at this point, but intend to keep it 6 volt positive ground. When I check voltage at the battery cables my voltmeter is showing around 18 volts. Is this normal?? Doesn’t seem like it should be that high. Any recommendations???

You are running the engine with all wiring connected except for the battery connections? Running the engine at medium speed or more? Yes, 18 volts or more is normal. Don't do that. The high voltage can damage things.

check and see if the field terminals are grounded , that would make that type of voltage
