How to remove pitman bearing

Before we start, yes, I know the threads are backwards. My problem is that the bolt/stud portion is spinning when I try to remove the nut. I have never pulled one of these apart, so I'm not certain how to get the nut off without the bolt spinning. Any ideas? Hoping there is a basic procedure as I really don't want to have to weld a smaller nut or bolt head to the end of the bearing bolt/stud.

Is there an exploded view of how the stud connects to the counter balance disc?

Hi,
I guess you have a Cub 22 Mower.

The shaft the pitman bearing is on is pressed into the mower's flywheel, usually they are so tight, people can't get them out when they need replacing, without lots of work.

Try pulling, or prying, the shaft forward, as you turn the nut, and see if the shaft will come out.
If it won't come forward, or out, try these other things below.

The hole for the shaft goes through the back of the flywheel, turn the flywheel so the shaft is at the left position, and maybe you can see the back side of it.
Use a hammer and large punch, or shaft, and try to hammer the shaft forward.

If the shaft is in good condition, and doesn't need replacing, you could put a small weld on the rear end of it, weld it onto the flywheel. Make the weld small, so you can get the shaft out, if needed.

You didn't say if the mower has the ball bearing pitman, or the plain bearing, IH made both.
If if has the ball bearing pitman, there is probably no wear on the shaft.
If it has the plain bearing, the shaft could have wear, and need repair or replacing.
I think the plain bearing wears on the shaft, I don't have one with the plain bearing, so I'm not sure.
