It came with a name

Postby Mike in CO » Sat Jul 24, 2021 12:41 pm

In the past, I have given names to my tractors. A lot of people do. I just purchased a '48 Cub and it came with a name, "Mr. T". I have no idea why the old gentleman named it that but it doesn't matter, I will honor it and will continue to refer to it as Mr. T. As soon as the tractor lands on my property, I will put a couple pictures of it on here. Mr. T is going to need some TLC, a lot of TLC : ).

Yep! My herd all have names, and I even put name tags on their tool boxes, so my sister's could tell them apart. They all look the same to them! :D

Looking forward to the photos!

Once I know that it is a sound runner, (fingers crossed) I will be looking for a hitch and the big half moon shaped hitch bar along with hunting down a set of cultivator pieces. The tractor is kind of naked in the rear and underneath.

I don’t typically name tractors but my wife will generally give them a name so they all have one. The late George Willer liked to name his after the person he purchased them from. I bought my “Scotty” Cub from his, he bought it from someone named Scott. Most of his ended up with names based on some feature, such as Shorty, Trike and Rambo (his puller). George made naming tractors fun.

My first tractor, a ‘47 Cub, was named in honor of my neighbor, Nellie. She’s no longer with us, but I think of her often because I named that tractor after her.
The ‘48 Cub is named Walter after another neighbor whom I bought it from. Thought about naming it Poison Ivy, since that’s what it was covered in when he helped me pull it out of his fence row.

I was always told that, like boats, it's bad luck to have a vehicle without a name. I carried that onto my vintage tractors as well as my personal vehicles.

I’ve never named my cars or trucks, am I headed for trouble? When I was a kid, two of my older brothers shared a 49 Packard, the name on the quarter panel: Half-Fast.
