ZXB3 Hercules engine (AVERY V)

I'm about ready to get into the engine on one of my AVERY V tractors. The engine is partly disassembled and came to me in that condition. Hopefully there is someone on the FORUM who has some knowledge/experience that they are willing to share. This is my first experience with the HERCULES ZXB 3 engine so any and all information is appreciated. I do have the I&T service manual and parts manual. Thanks, Stan.

I've never been into that specific model but in general, some Hercules parts are difficult to come by. Try to determine what you're going to need and see if you can find a source before you get too committed. There are a few sources who specialize in Hercules parts but their coverage is very limited. One that comes to mind is Hercano Propulsion in Newark, Ohio. Phone: 740-745-1475 They're probably the leading supplier.

Not an expert but I did rebuild one few years back. I ended up boring each cylinder and sleeved them and then bored each sleeve to fit one of the original pistons. Pistons were okay but cylinders were egg shaped .Got parts from a lot of different places. The shop that bored it for me found a lot of them for me. (They are now out of business so that is no help. It was along process, but now complete. Also converted to 12 volt while doing project.
I have some a few extra parts as I had 3 at one time.101_0583.JPG

Thanks for the replies, now if I can just get some of my other projects out of the way, maybe I can start looking into what's going to need to be done.
