Below is the serial number list. It looks like the Cub is a 1953.
The serial number plate looks in good condition.

How to look up your tractor on a serial number chart:
1. Find the first number in the list that is higher than your tractor's.
2. Move back in the list 1 year.
Example:
Serial number lists generally show the first number built each year. Using your number 171890, the first number in the list that is higher is 179412, which corresponds to 1954. 1 year back on the list is 1953, so your tractor is a 1953 model.
Now you know. And knowing is half the battle. GI Joe.
