I tried to go to the closest IH Case dealer to pick up some of the IH red 2150 spray paint over the weekend. I should have called ahead of time, but I figured, what the heck - I'll just take a leisurely drive out through the country. 8) :D I was a bit low on gas, and actually started sweating some as there weren't any gas stations for miles running. :oops: I finally made it up to the dealer, and noticed there weren't any cars or trucks in the parking lot like there usually are.

As I turned into the parking lot, I noticed this yellow police type tape around the building, and this odd smell in the air. No lights on, no tractors around, eerily quiet. Then, I noticed the smoot on the inside of the windows. They had a fire, and one of the last IH Case dealers within 30 miles of me was gone. I just did a google search on them, and I found a recent court filing with Federated Insurance Company against this dealer. Something just doesn't look right about this one at all. I doubt seriously this dealer will ever open for business again. :censored: :twisted: I know this was a mom and pop type of business that has been around a long time. I remember a couple of years ago seeing a Super M in the shop that had just been restored to its full glory with that blazing red paint on it. Too bad another part of Americana is gone up in smoke. Oh well. That just means TM and the other site sponsors will get my parts orders now. No one else around here is left. :tears: :tears: :tears: :weaping: :worthy:

That is unfortunate. Even though i am 15 miles away (different directions) from two different CaseIH dealers, i still do most of my business with site sponsors. Just easier.

I like the guys at the dealer I deal with.They have gotten to know me a little.I even have a charge account with them :twisted: :twisted: Kevin plus I moved closer to them.15 mins on the HD :mrgreen: :mrgreen:
 
This is the way of the world! Our Case/IH dealer (Gibbs) built a new facility some time back. Their service was so poor I quit going there. They closed after a couple years. They were only interested in customers looking for a new combine, I guess. :evil:

I was thinking back to all the successful tractor dealers right here locally within 5 miles of each other when I was in high school. As far as I remember all of them offered good service.
1. Obermyer sales... IH
2. Caris tractor sales... Ford, but Tack sales was another dealer within 15 miles at Oak Harbor, OH
3. Price lumber and supply... John Deere, but another dealer was at Gibsonburg, OH about 12 miles away
4. Balsizer equipment... Minnie-Mo
5. Goodeman equipment... Massey
6. I forget... Allis-Chalmers, but George Wahlers was another A/C dealer within 20 miles near Port Clinton, OH
7. Harold Willey... Oliver
 
Rick, that didn't happen to be Williams-Trull in Reidsville, NC was it? There was a post on here about them having a fire about a month or so ago.

I am lucky, there is an IH dealer any direction I go! One south, one north, one east, and one west. You would think I would make it there to get parts every now and then, but usually NAPA is my first stop.
 
Yes, it was Williams-Trull. I never had any problems from them at all. It surprised me to see the remains of the inside of the building like I did. And, no I didn't run out of gas. Found a gas station just down the road a bit before the warning light came on. Does anyone know if Williams-Trull moved? I'm concerned about the court thing with the insurance company I saw on the internet.
 
Also, GOOD to hear from you Mr. Willer! :{_}: Hope you're doing much better. And the posting about a month ago coincides with the date posted about the court case with the insurance company. Sad, sad, sad.

Burglars set Reidsville business on fire
I haven't seen this in the local media, so I did some asking and came up with this:

Two men broke into Williams Trull Co. on Scales Street in Reidsville on Oct. 4. For reasons not known, they set the building on fire.

According to police, a patron at nearby Turks Sports Bar saw a commotion at Williams Trull about 11:30 pm and called police. Police responded and saw two men leaving the scene. After a brief foot chase, police apprehended two men.

Meanwhile, the fire department responded and found heavy smoke upon arrival. After putting out the flames, firefighters had to do extensive overhaul to the building to look for hotspots. That means tearing out walls and peeling back the roof.

The business is currently closed. Calls to the owner have not been returned.

Police arrested two men from Greensboro at the scene and charged them with felony breaking and entering and willfully burning a store.

Arrested were Lelon David Williamson, 27, of 703 Sykes Ave in Greensboro and Kenneth Eugene Sports Jr., 23, of 58 Garibaldi Place in Greensboro. Sports was also charged with possession of cocaine.

This incident is bad on several levels, but one that stands out to me is that Williams Trull owner Billy Puckett has worked very hard and spent a lot of money to make that business look attractive and remain a vibrant part of the city's economy. The company has been in business for decades selling heavy farm equipment. Let's hope he stays in business for decades to come.

2cubs2cases. Thank you so much for posting that. Reidsville is a small town, and you can see farming all along the roads that lead into the town. I know I saw a great deal of IH tractors in barns, lean-toos, etc., as I was driving up from the country side. It still makes me wonder about this part: http://dockets.justia.com/docket/court-ncmdce/case_no-1:2008cv00176/case_id-48049/ If two people were caught in the act, then why in the world is an insurance company involved in a court case? Too much going on, and too little information. Still, this has to hurt the farmers in the area. Now they have to drive somewhere else to either get tractor parts and have some one work on their equipment, or haul their big tractors to a dealer somewhere and still be down from working in the fields. Times are hard enough without something like this coming up. Once again, thank you for posting the information. It is much appreciated.
 
This is how I understand what is happening. The insurance company and the tractor dealer are arguing over the coverage for the fire. The insurance company offered a certain amount of money for the damage, loss of inventory etc. The tractor dealer is no doubt arguing with the insurance adjuster that the amount of money they are offering to pay is a low ball figure. The insurance company is now suing the tractor dealer in federal court to get a judge to settle the amount they have to pay the tractor dealer. Hope this was clear. :)
