Where to purchase a quality fuel strainer/bowl?

I recently, purchased a fuel strainer from Steiner for my Farmall Cub. It leaks in multiple places. The fuel shut off valve does not full shut off. With the bowl removed, I see a slow drip. Even tried a gentle snugging with pliers. Still didn’t stop dripping. The fuel bowl, which was excessively tightened down from the factory, just will not seal. I believe this is due to the non-original style fuel screen with a white plastic edge. The rubber gasket can only seal one side of this screen, so it leaks from the other side, weeping fuel along the circumference. I purchased the original-style brass mesh fuel screen and cork gasket from TM Tractor, so I fixed that leak. I also notice a visible manufacturing defect on the outlet for the fuel line where the ferrule is supposed to seat. Looks like there was a tiny bubble in the casting. I used a high-quality fuel sealant, so the threaded connection into the tank does not leak. Steiner sent me a second fuel bowl, but I have experienced the same issues. Same defect where the ferrule seats! Needless to say, this was a very disappointing and frustrating experience. I consider the product to be of low quality.

Question, where can I purchase a quality fuel strainer? When I see other websites that have fuel strainers with that same white plastic fuel screen, I assume they're sourced from the same manufacturer.
 
Sorry to hear about all your troubles. I hope you get things fixed up without any more trouble. I quit buying from Steiner because of the same types of issues. It was about 50/50 on whether or not whatever part I purchased would work right or not.
 
JMHO, usually the OEM assembly can be repaired if it has not been damaged. Individual replacement parts are available at auto parts stores. Also try McDonald Ignition and Carb. Try to talk to Morgan McDonald. Stan

You should call Steiner and tell them it was defective. They replaced parts for me when they didn't work within 1 year. I bought several fuel sediment bowls from them with good luck. Got a bad one from TM Tractor once and he said they had a bunch of bad ones recently. This was a few years ago. Offered to exchange it with a non OEM type, but I got a good one from Steiner. Like anything else sometimes quailty is not consistent. Most will stand by their parts and send another one if you ask.
 
I tend to buy from Steiner because they are much closer to me and shipping is cheaper. When I have had a problem with a part I purchase from them I called them and they made it right. Any supplier can get a batch of bad parts. They need to know a part is bad to determine if the other parts they have on hand are good or bad so they don't keep shipping bad parts.

You’re not alone. A lot of the aftermarket strainers have quality issues. TM Tractor or an OEM used original (cleaned/rebuilt) tends to be the most reliable option.

I bought one from Case/IH several years back. Works perfect today. I have my Cub hood/gas tank off now. No leaks. The shut off still has a "snug" feel when turning it. When I turn it to the closed position, I just stop - I don't tighten it any more. Not a drop of fuel comes out of the tank. No leaks around the fuel bowel either.
The price might high. Just go through the "pain" of the high cost now. You will forget about it in a few days. But, the joy of having a leak free fuel bowel/shutoff will last a long time.

I will try TM Tractor or CASE/IH. I give up on Steiner after my third fuel strainer! The third one was supposedly OEM. However, the fuel shut-off will not completely shut-off. (The shut-off sticks at a certain point every revolution, which indicates to me that it's poorly machined.) The port for the fuel line is also poorly machined and the brass fitting for the line will not seat well. Dealing with a leaking fuel strainer has been extremely frustrating as well as a dangerous fire hazard. Thank you all for the feedback.
 
Ugh, that's super frustrating. I ran into something similar on an old utility tractor a while back. For future purchases, I think TM Tractor (which you will try) and Friday Parts are the safest bets for Farmall stuff. Personally, I'd just write Steiner off for anything fuel-system related at this point.
