What year is my Cub?

I am trying to find all the information I can about my new to me farmall cub.

It seems to me that the best place to start is to find out what year it is from.

Then I can start scouring the internet for the manual :)

:help: where would I find the year of manufacture?

The tractor serial number will give you a good idea of the tractor's year, but sometimes the data plate is from a different tractor. The steering gear housing that the data plate is riveted to (at the base of the steering shaft), sometimes incurs freeze damage and is swapped out. If the data plate is not transfered, you can end up with one from the donor housing.

There are date codes cast into many of the components, that can give you another way of determining the year of manufacture.

This is from TM Tractors, a parts supplier and forum sponsor. Hope this helps. And WELCOME!

Hi,
Below is a page from the 1955 Cub owner's manual, showing where the serial number is.
There is an engine serial number also. It is not the same as the tractor serial number, unless it is the 1st year of Cubs, a 1947, then the numbers were only the same for part of the year.

Sometimes the serial number plate is painted over by someone, or gone, like was said above.
The number is stamped in the plate. If it is painted over, use a good light, and you might be able to read the number under the paint.
The engine serial number has no plate, the number is stamped in the block. You might need to clean the block, and use a good light to see it.

There are Cub owner's manuals at the top of the page at Cub Info, then go to Rudi's Manuals. :)
