I have a Wacker generator that need a new frame. The PO always mistreated this unit by dropping it or setting it in the mud & water. I had to get the engine running, it runs great & generates great.

Do I have to remove the unit from the frame to do the repair to the frame on welding. The bottom of the frame is toast.

As long as you hook your ground from your welder directly to what you are welding on it should be fine.

If it uses electronic voltage or rpm regulation, make sure that ground is very very good. I might even think about getting it done with a torch rather than an electric welder if electronics.

Gas powered generator? Might want to consider the "gas" portion and how to eliminate the combustible fumes.

How about make a frame with wheels to drop your exsisting frame into then tac weld it.
