Checking in to see if anyone near Alabama/Tenn area might know of a Cub sickle bar setup available. Currently own a 1948ish that I am looking to setup for cutting a couple small pastures. Currently tractor has zero setup for this,

Not sure what you are meaning when you use the word setup. We may have a language difference here. The mower simply hooks to the tractor. The year also makes a small difference. The early cubs used a 4 1/2 inch drive pulley while the later ones,1955 strikes me as the change, uses a 4 inch due to thhe speeding up of the engine to gain power. The 4 1/2 inch pulley is cast iron and is a piece of garbage. The later pulley I believe is steel although I've never seen one. If what you are looking for is a complete mower this is an important part. They are often missing. They are available new but cost as much as the mower, or more. It is a special made pulley that is offset so the actual pulley is behind the rear of the tail shaft. I am not near you but do have a mower I would sell but the drive pulley is missing. My advice if you are not looking to mow for hay but merely to clean up a pasture would be to consider a Mott flail mower. I have one of those too. It is not for sale. Vern

Hi,
Both sizes of drive pulleys for the Cub 22 Mowers are cast, they look the same, except one is 4", the other one is 4 1/2".
Yes, 1955 was when they changed to the 4" pulley. I have the mower with the 4" pulley, the pulley has worked well for decades, no problems with it. I had another Cub and mower with the 4 1/2" pulley, it worked good too.
The pulleys have to be kept tight on the PTO shaft, or the splines will wear. The pulleys are made to tighten on the PTO shaft.
There may have been early pulleys that were not made to tighten on the shaft, maybe that is what you are thinking of, V W.
Below are pictures from TM Tractor Parts of the pulleys.

Below is their listing for a new 4 1/2" pulley.

The smaller hole in the side of the pulley is for a cotter key, it goes through the pulley, and hole in the PTO shaft.
The larger hole in the side of the pulley is for a 3/8" bolt, lock washer, and nut. After putting the cotter key in, you tighten the bolt. The pulley squeezes in enough to tighten on the shaft, if the splines are in good condition. Remove all dirt from the splines before putting the pulley on.

If you are willing to travel to Jefferson Ohio there's a guy on Facebook marketplace with a really nice one. It could use a couple knives but it's pretty nice. I was there Thursday .
