varmits

I've been holding back on this one until I got the final results. Down in Florida those pink plastic flamingos are popular yard art. We often commented about how garish and ugly they were. I told my wife that if I found one I would buy it. She hated the idea. Finally found a pair in Colorado of all places. Took them home and put them in the garden as a joke. You don't see many flamingos in Tennessee. We have rabbits, dear, rats, raccoons, possums, you name it. To date we have not had one single varmit problem in the garden. I don't know if the pink flamingos had anything to do with it but I'll invite them back next year. BTW Dave the first two went fine and the 3rd one id August 21st.

Until you mentioned it I had never thought about the flamingo effect. There may be something to it. We have one area at our place that is a small tropical garden, with tropical plants and a palm tree (until it froze last winter). Palms don't do well north of California. My wife put a couple of pink flamingos out in the tropical garden as a joke a couple of years ago. It may be a coincidence, but we didn't have any problems with gophers, moles, or squirrels while they were there. This year the flamingos were taken out because they had faded to white in the sun and were looking pretty decrepit. Recently we noticed that the varmints were coming back. Maybe we'll have to get another pair of flamingos and try out your theory. Of course our dog thinks of these varmints as snacks but there are too many for her to keep up with.

I agree those things are ugly and all but it might be worth a try to keep the raccoons out of my corn and the deer out of my cantaloupes.

I love those things. I have some guarding the Cub shop. I even brought one with me to my flea market space at Bloomsburg last year.
