Valve seat pitted

I have a ‘48 Cub that I recently purchased. It has outside for years. The valves were stuck and rusty. I cleaned them up with a wire wheel. One of the valve seats is pitted a bit. I tried to lap it and it is not cleaning up much. I was hoping not to have to take the engine in to have everything reground. Is there a way to just regrind the one valve seats myself?

I did mine using the kit below:

New Exhaust valves:

After grinding the seats I installed new exhaust valves. On mine the intakes only needed lapped and regapped, the exhaust valves were all pitted and after lightly grinding them I lapped the new valves and assembled. I also replaced the valve springs on the exhaust valves, they were also in rough condition and a few broke when tearing down.

If you are that deep into the engine this isn't that difficult to do in comparison.

My seats were not as rough as the one you have pictured.

Tim’s correct but I’d try recutting the seat, anyway, nothing to lose! I use Neway valve seat cutters, the ones Hockeygoon pointed out will probably work okay, as long as they’re new and sharp.

They were cheap but did a decent job - if I were planning on doing this more than two or three more times in my lifetime I would consider buying better.
