tsc parts washer

Local TSC store has parts washer says use water based fluid only. On the same shelf is a product PC 1000 and the can says petroleum based parts cleaner. So what is the deal?

The deal is, don't use the petroleum based product in that washer.

That sounds like the same model that Harbor Freight sells. There are several YouTube videos about them and upgrades people have made.

Caution!! Opinion Alert!!
Personally, I think a parts washer should be able to wash parts; that means using whatever fluid available to do the job. Can't think of anything more frustrating than to have a parts washer that won't thoroughly clean parts. Find a parts washer that accepts petroleum based fluid, then you have the option of using whatever fluid that works.

Just meaning to say that parts washer box on outside has no mention of water base only fluids and there is petroleum based cleaner next to it on shelf. Looks like simple green or purple power is the way to go, but second to petro base for real cleaning. Or use petroleum base and not use the recirculating pump that must be for water only. Or find a different pump that can use petroleum base.
 
I've got one of the HF ones in my motorcycle shop and use a water based solvent. It doesn't do much for caked greasy type stuff.

I think the water based solvents are simply a soap with an anti-foaming agent. Pretty much the same stuff used in an automatic diswasher.
 
I have never used the water based solvents since my washer sets outside under a lean too and we occasionally get -10F, and rarely lower. I use a Harbor Freight parts washer, and the Tractor Supply TC1000 solvent. Been using that combination for around 20 years, though I did have to replace the pump about 7 or 8 years ago.
 
I believe that TSC and Harbor Freight washers are the same. Yesterday when I wanted to use my washer the spring assembly that holds the top up came apart. A fire safety feature I assume.
