Transmission rust

Opened up the transmission today to find this!! Good news (if any) is that there does not appear to be missing or badly worn teeth! Looking for suggestions as to theist way to clean it up, hopefully w/out tearing it down or out!! Wishful thinking???IMG_4696.jpg :help: :tractor:

There are some rust removers like Evapo-rust, but I'd almost bet your bearings are shot and need replacement. Does anything turn?

Actually dry powder, some water? in bottom of case, Not slimy wet but not pitted, some gears look brand new w/no rust at all!?! Rear end completely locked up - clutch does not release anything. Just getting started evaluating, will probably pull mower frame off to access rear end! Shot PB blaster in cylinders last week - sure i'll need to pull the head. W/probably see how bearing s look after cleanup of rust Bob, not excited about rebuilding a transmission unless its a have to case! w/keep you posted on findings but w/be slow going!! Thanks for any suggestions.

I'd probably dump some mineral spirts, diesel fuel, fuel oil or kerosene in the trans (what ever was cheapest and on hand at the moment)!

Fill it using your judgement to cover enough, but leave enough room for working and take one of those stiff parts washer brushes, and go at it!

Jack it, and block it up, and spin the rear tire once in a while doing your transmission brushing chores.

Maybe work at unsticking the clutch first that way you can spin a tire (with the clutch disengaged) to spin the transmission in each gear!

Use some more of one of the liquids mentioned abobe to flush it out as needed.
