Transmission retainer cap removal

Hey guys,

Is there a trick to removing the lower retainer cap on the front of the transmission? I want to replace the gasket but can’t get it any further out than what you see in the picture.

Hi,
The Cub service manual says on page 6-6, paragraph 4, remove the cap. It doesn't say anything is holding it on after removing the bolts.

Here is the page below.

Below is the manual if you don't have it. The transmission is in section 6. It has lots of info. :)

When you put the retainer and oil seal on above the cap, on the shaft, be sure the side of the retainer with the bulge is facing to the rear, or into the trans.

Ok, got it. Thanks guys. So there is multiple pieces here and I was trying to remove the cap, bearing retainer and shims together. They were all sandwiched up. So just the cap comes off. Seam like it would leak where the shin meet the case but I guess not. I’ll prob throw a little gasket sealer on them.

Thanks!!!!

Don't get too carried away with sealer on the shims. You could alter the adjustment. I think there is an o-ring in there to take care of sealing anyway.
