hi guys, I have question on my touch control, :help: I was low on hyd. fluid caused by a leak, so I bought some Lucas hyd. fluid and it helps stop leaks. after I filled the TC up with the fluid, it seems that when I want to lower the Implement it goes down real slow and wines, but when I raise the TC it goes up very smoothly and quick. Should I drain the TC and put a different type of hyd. fluid in? thanks in advance, it may take forever to get the driveway plowed this winter. lol

The operation you describe is normal, especially in cool/cold weather and without a heavy implement installed. There is a retarder valve that keeps implements from dropping suddenly. If the fluid you used is HyTran compliant you should be ok. If not I would drain it and flush with some that is. The HyTran compliant fluids will also be marked as for hydraulic/transmission.
 
Mike I did bleed the unit, I don't remember how many times I lowered and raised it with the plug out. john I am not certain if it said hy-tran on the label or not. I will have to check it when I get back up next weekend.
I have the snow plow attached, I would think that should be heavy enough.

one more question guys,
when I drain the fluid I had put in the unit, and start filling it back up with the correct fluid, do I raise or lower the control all the way?

You'll add fluid, start tractor, and cycle the control back and forth about a dozen times to purge any air that may be in the system. Then lower the control all the way and top off the fluid. While purging and with control lowered I keep an eye on the fluid level and add as needed just to be on the safe side

Just for clarification the cylinder should be fully retracted (lever pulled towards the operator) after the purge, then top off the fluid.
 
Just to clarify what Scrivet said... Make sure that the cylinder is retracted when refilling and then fill to the bottom of the threads on the filler. That will ensure that the reservoir is not over filled. Then cycle several times (10-12 or more) and then retract the cylinder again. Remove the plug and check the fluid level and top off to the bottom of the threads again. Should be good to go then.

Did you find the source of the leak? Is it leaking into the crankcase or from around the TC?

I'm not sure what is leaking. I will do a rebuild after the winter season, I pushed snow today we had about 4 to 6 inches in Tionesta PA.

I can see the fluid on the cardboard under the cub, it is not leaking real bad but it leaks. I hope I get through the winter with it the way it is. thanks
 
If you intend to use your cub in cold weather it is a good idea to use a 10 weight or lighter hydraulic oil. My self I prefere automatic transmission fluid. reason being if you have the original old screen filter in the unit and the hydraluic fluid is too thick the pump will have a hard time getting oil resulting in the screen filter being sucked into a little ball causing the unit to not get any oil at all.. I had this problem on my loader cub some years back. I use transmission fluid year round with not problems now.
