The rear tires on the cub appear to be cracking and rotting out on the sides. So putting this on the list of things to do for the Cub this spring/summer.
What is the preference for tires. Would like to keep the 45 degree bar rears that looks like the original. It currently has turf fronts on it and they appear to be ok.
 
JMHO, Depends on your objectives and your pocketbook. If you're happy with the R-1 ag tread that's one thing. Some have said they get better traction with turf tread with chains depending on the situation. If you're mowing then remove the chains to match the turf tires on the front. Seems to me like the age old discussion on what's the best motor oil to use!!! Stan

The surface rubber on tractor tires can look old and cracked , and the materials under the surface still be good. One of the experts on here, it might have been Eugene, used to say if the tire will hold air, he uses it, no matter how bad it looks.
Bulges on the sides or tread areas are not good.
If you post 1 or more pictures of them, we could see how they look.
You didn't say the size of the tires.
If you want to replace them, they have said on here to ask at your local tire store that works on tractor tires, they may have as good a price as online, and they can do the mounting work there.
Cub tires use inner tubes, so you may need new ones if the tubes are originals. :) 🎄
 
Bar tread and NEVER look back!!! Got 1 cub here with turf ( racin slicks) and its useless for general use!
The main cub has Firestone field and road design and it will go everywhere and pull til motor dies or dig a hole tryin.
It mostly depends on what you intend to use the cub for mainly.
This is what my plow cub has on it and they work great!

I've been looking at tires as well. My fronts are cracked really bad and should be replaced. The rears are cracked in a few spots, but not as bad. They all hold air pretty well. One rear tire goes a little low when it gets really cold outside for a while, but other than that it holds air.

I was looking at rear tires and surprisingly Wal-Mart says they will ship them to the store for free, no delivery fee. Just have to go pick them up with your truck. Other places charge quite a bit for delivery I've noticed. My Cub has 9.5-24 size tires on it that look pretty good. I'm a fan of the Ag tire vs turf tires. They just look cooler IMO. The Petlas TA tire isn't too expensive and looks pretty cool.

Fronts I've seen for sale from many places. 4.00-12 is the stock size for those I believe. I've heard good reviews on the Deestone front tires, but not so good reviews of their supplied tire tubes.
 
Good call Don, I was about to recommend the same thing. The little O-rings tend to shrink in cold weather and with the light pressures, the valve cores can leak also.
 
Tries are Goodyear 8x24s (as stamped on the tire). As you can see in the picture the threads are showing through the cracks. Wanting the bar tires as I do plow with this and grade some. Also its the first tractor I use to push snow. If its a snow where I'm going to need chains I've just been using the 100. Theres a much larget one at about 7 to 830 that follows the circumference of the rim.

Thanks for the picture. If you decide to buy new rear tires, there are some made that have tread angles about like the tires you have. You can find them online, and look at the pictures. They changed the sizing of them years ago. The modern tire size for a 8 x 24" tire is 8.3 x 24"
Like I wrote above, they have said on here that your local tire store that works on tractor tires may have as good a price as online, and they can probably mount them too. :) 🎄

The tires are small enough to fit in many car trunks…no pickup needed.
I go with cheap…used…weather cracked…they hold air and work.
Last ones I go were some 9.5-24s that came off an allis B that a guy restored. $100 for the pair.
The real work is preparing the rims.

Yeah all the ones I've seen all curve down in the center, which I would prefer not to have.
Yeah the one tire (actually maybe this one, was mounted backwads. So my car mechanic used his tire machine and flipped it around.
 
JP Tractor Salvage has good used pairs often, if you are not wanting new. You could put an add on the vine to see if any other “Cubbers” have some for sale.
