Temporary Fuel Tank - What to Use?

I'm looking for ideas from members about what they use for a temporary fuel tank when the hood is removed from the Cub. I made one from a small juice can and a rubber hose and hung it from a makeshift hangar, but there must be a better way. Ideas, suggestions, experiences, etc., would be appreciated.

By the way, THIS IS A GREAT FORUM! The replies to my questions have been GREAT!.........Thanks..............CW

CW,

Here's mine. It's a former mower tank.

Check out small engine repair shops. I bought one today for $3. Probably 1 qt capacity, though I don't need that much. Last time I needed one I borrowed my lawn mower's for a couple days.

I'm guessing that "reducer" on the exhaust "pipe" pushed you over the top !! C

If you are just testing it ..... a funnel and fire extinguisher worked for me.

I asked the guy at the dump to save one for me.... so I am a little safer now!

But I have enough confidence in the the 49 running that I put the hood back on before I try it. Hopefully tomorrow night.

I made a clamp from some mild steel rod to hold an old riding mower tank and mounted that using the tube mounting bolts. The tank will snap in/out.

Hey CW,

Here is another set up I used. IT is a push mower plastic tank mounted on a piece of angle iron. I mounted the temporary toggle switch and coil to it also.

Now there is a handle I didn't get for a sec... so tell us now.. are you like a former spook or a Ham?? I am both and there are a few of us on the forum...  :!:

Seriously now.. if you check out the How To Forum and then the How To Work on Your Cub - Maintenance Tips and Techniques thread, scroll down to the ..

and click on the Pony Tank link.. Rick has a nice quick safe and rather stable method for doing what most of the fellas do..

Also, at Cecil's CubFest Northeast 2006, one of the board members had a bunch of Surplus Honda mower (?) tanks -- and he basically asked who wanted em. He then brought the spoken for ones to CubFest and a bunch of us including me snapped em up for like 5 bucks each... good investment. I am making a bracket for mine so that I can have a ready to go setup like Rick's.

Pony tanks like those would be a good thing to have as part of the swap meets side of the CubFest guys..... :!: :!: :!:

Larry, the Fire Extinguisher and Funnel trick.. well .. scares me buddy...      I always thought you were joshin me... guess not

Oh yea,

One other note on temporary tanks. Make sure what ever you use you put a shut off valve on it or in the line.
