Steering wheel grip

Hey men,can anyone tell me the best way to renew/refurbish/preserve a cub steering wheel grip/cover that has been out in the weather several yes. Very cracked but no missing pieces (yet). Thanks.
 
Barnyard, appreciate your quick reply and link to the subject. However, I have not been able to access any posts marked locked even though I have joined as a member (3/7/16) , posted a question and received notification that I could now view locked posts. Don't know if its me or the kindle I use for quick web access or what, but a lot of posts show locked for me and I can' t read them. Guess I'll search deeper in the forum for earlier posts. Thanks.
 
I have had good results from using JB Weld to fill cracks. Wait at least one day and sand off excess to make smooth. Repeat if necessary. When all cracks are filled and it is smooth to your satisfaction, mask off spokes and spray with a gloss black paint. Dupli-Color has worked well for me.
Much easier if you remove the steering wheel.
 
A locked post means that no additions can be made to it. Those should be available to you just as any other thread would be. I would guess it has something to do with the Kindle. A moderator or Dennis may be able to help you with that.

Most How To's are locked, but as Bob pointed out, you should be able to read them. I am the moderator for that forum, so if you have any problems there, please let me know.
 
Barnyard, checked the forum earlier this eve and was able to open 2 locked posts, (for the 1st time) but my kindle refused to unlock the third, and when I went back to the previously opened 2, they wouldn't open again. Just takes me to a viewer profile and requests a private message be sent. I use my kindle for this because of portability and quick access vs. my computer. Have not tried to access this site via computer, will try one rainy day with more time on hand. Thanks
 
Since you posted this in the "Cub Cadet Forum", I'm not sure what kind of steering wheel you're talking about. Is it a Farmall Cub tractor, or a Cub Cadet?

If Farmall Cub or one of the earlier types Cadets (Original, 70, 100), then it would be a composite material looking like this:

If you're referring to a Cub Cadet in the later 60's or newer, then it would be more modern-day plastic and look more like this:

To which type of steering wheel are you referring? Your first post seems to indicate the Cub variety. If so, then BIGHOSS's post above is the way to go. I've done a few steering wheels that way. Just make sure everything is clean, clean, clean before applying the JB Weld.
 
I've repaired 2 Farmall Cub steering wheels with that How To, but I did switch to JB QUICK part way through. It dries more quickly, and doesn’t "drool" like the regular JB WELD did. Add the filler a.small amount at a time to avoid excessive sanding. Once it is the shape you want, a satin black paint makes it look like new!

Thanks for the replies fellas. It is a cub, '49. The current steering wheel is toast as far as the original coating is concerned. I wanted to take the best one from one of my 2 donor cubs and put on it, but wanted to do that one up right for looks and longevity before I put it on. Will try to access the "locked" sites from my desktop PC this eve and see if that makes a difference. Thanks again.
