Steering post on 1450

I took 2 bolts that hold up the gas tank out, and 2 more on each side at the bottom of the steering post on my 1450, but I can't seem to get the post off, or at least very loose? I think I need to take out a galvanized? looking bolt/rod that goes through it, but it don't seem to move at all? i didn't really muscle it cause i dont' wanna break anything.... just wondering ifn any of you guys have any advice about getting it off?

i need to get it off to try and see what's wrong with my hydro lift lever, I tried squirting some break away on it, all i had at the moment, but it didn't seem to do anything?

I assume you are talking about the steering box and column, if so there are two bolts, 3/8" x 1" or so, that mount the box to a cross member/mount bracket. They go through the cross member into the back side of the box, and are about an inch apart. The galvanized looking bolt is what hold the steering arm to the box, don't take it off.

i can't quite see what you're talking about, but ifn I looked at the tractor i'd probably understand...

also, how would I take a QA 42 and make it fit? i noticed it's just about an inch too narrow, which it should be.... can I just bend the mounting plates with a torch?

I wouldn't heat and bend them, that will just cause other mounting problems. You need to find the mount from a QA 36A / QA 42A or 36B /42B. They are adjustable in width to fit both narrow frame and wide frame tractors.
 
Thanks Paul, I'll keep an eye out, but I have a feeling i'm never gonna find just a frame, or even an A/B whole blower for a good price...

well, i never did have to take the steering box/column, and it was teh valve that was stuck, not the linkage for the hydro lift... i just hit the valve real easily with a tiny hammer, and it moved the first time 8)

You might give Ray Weaver a call about the QA xx A or B mount. Ray parts Cub Cadets.
