Unless I’m lucky getting my steering post straightened looking for a replacement hopefully near central IL, Understand there are 2 lengths- are they interchangeable? What year or model did they change? Dusty B. 309-287-4411

I'm no expert on this, but I'm aware there is a long and short steering rod, but I believe the steering post itself are the same length. Hopefully someone with more smarts will come on board. I should be able to help you out with the post if you end up needing one.

Steering posts are the same. The older shaft is about 4 inches shorter than the newer. Long shaft starts at serial # 221872 and above. Short shaft is serial # 221871 and below.

cub up to sometime in 63 were the same, except some have the bronze washer on them that can fall off, some had steel washers that were pressed on and stayed on
then they got longer with the new steering ratio late 63 to end of production

The support posts are all the same in the sense that the part number never changed. By definition, that makes them all the same part. But I think if you look closely at them you can see a difference. The later ones appear to have a sharper bend. The upper end is in the same place. It is a weird difference that must have been the result of some manufacturing difference that came from retooling along the way. This is just a bit of Cub trivia.
