I know there are at least 2 different brackets as I was changing starters between a 70, an Original and a 106 and I found out the 106 bracket wouldn't fit my 7 HP engines. What model are you wanting the starter bracket to fit and what did they say the bracket was from? If I know the model you need it for I can check the numbers and can see if the different HP engines in that series used the same bracket.
Are you asking if they used different width's of the mount bracket or different lengths of the starter generator?
Basically, there were two different brackets used on the Original Cub Cadet, one welded, one cast, and the cast one will fit the other 7 hp engines. The K-181 engine in a model 86 Cub Cadet was a bracket of it's own, but basically all the 10,12,14,16 hp Cub Cadet engines that used the starter generator, used the same part number mounting bracket.
Did your bracket, and the starter generator, come from an engine originally used in a Cub Cadet. If either came from an engine originally used in something other than a Cub Cadet, then yes, there could be some differences. There are differences in the Kohler K series engines, depending on the original application.

Cub Cadets also shared the anomolie of driving the starter off both ends of the engine. If you start swapping starters be aware that there are clockwise and counterclockwise starter-gens. :roll: Frank
Here is the hole deal I have a lincoln welder we bought abou 25 years ago
it has a rope starter at the time an electric starter was $100.00 or so more. I didnt mind pulling on it back then age has changed my mind. It is 8 HP I have a starter gen that is good Dont no what it came off of The bracket will bolt to the kOLER MOTER FINE BUT IS TO WIDE FOR THE GEN i HAVE

Dave, Me too I would strap start gravely tractors at one time and practically pick the machine up, it would come at me that was a time before age has caught up with me too.

The old Gravely L's used the Kohler 7 H.P. 161 engines (same as the early Cub Cadets). You had to keep the Gravely timed just right to pull start it on the FIRST TRY with the leather startin' strap ! My Kohler 161 7 H.P. in my Cub Cadet Model 73 will still start up very easily with the electric Starter / Generator...even if I haven't started her up in several weeks!!!
